What are the most common causes of supermarket accidents?
Several types of accidents can occur while in a supermarket. From minor accidents to severe injuries, we've listed some of the common incidents these claims arise from.
- Slips, trips and falls: Supermarket aisles should always be clear of obstacles and spillages. Anything that can cause an obstruction should be cleared away as soon as possible. If store cleaning is taking place or there's a leak that has made the floor wet, warning signs should be in place.
- Falling objects: If the supermarket shelves are damaged or faulty, this may result in falling stock and could lead to a serious injury. You could also trap your fingers or receive cuts and bruises when handling items.
- Car parks: There is always a chance of an accident occurring wherever vehicles and pedestrians are in close proximity. There may also be several defects in the supermarket car park, including potholes or other hazards that could cause you to trip and fall.
- Manual handling: If you work in a supermarket, you should have received the appropriate training on how to safely manoeuvre large, heavy items. Alternatively, there should be lifting aids available to assist you. You may sustain an injury if you're not given regular breaks, trained adequately, or supplied with the suitable equipment to get the job done.
- Warehouse accidents: Working in a supermarket warehouse also comes with its risks. Perhaps you've fallen from a ladder or you've had the contents of a storage cage fall on top of you.
You may be entitled to supermarket accident compensation if the injury you sustained was a result of somebody else's negligence.

Is there a time limit on making a supermarket accident compensation claim?
You will have three years from the date of the accident to make a claim. However, we recommend that you get in touch with us as soon as possible.
There are certain circumstances where this time limit can be extended. For example, you can claim on behalf of a child at any point until their 18th birthday. Your child can take up their own case after they've turned 18 but must make a claim before their 21st birthday.

In cases involving very serious or catastrophic injury that have gone to Court, the Judge can rule that the compensation is paid in a continuous series of regular payments if it's in the best care interests of the Claimant.
Can I make a no win no fee supermarket accident claim?
We operate on a no win no fee basis for most of our cases. This means you won't have to worry about paying anything unless your claim is successful.
You'll need to have the right insurance in place to proceed with a no win no fee claim. Your solicitor will arrange this with you following your initial discussion. You can then rest assured that all the necessary costs will be covered should your claim for supermarket accident compensation be unsuccessful.
If you win your case, a success fee will be deducted from your overall compensation amount. This figure will be agreed upon with you beforehand, so you won't receive any nasty surprises at the end of the claims process. We will handle your case on a No Win No Fee basis, with no up-front costs to pay. So, if your claim fails and we don't manage to recover compensation for you, you won't be charged. If your claim succeeds, we guarantee that we'll never deduct more than 35% of your compensation. Other firms, which may quote less than 35% initially, may charge VAT on top of their rate, and charge for legal insurance in addition to charges for their time and the work involved, even after stating that their fees will be capped at 25%. So, it is worth bearing in mind that quotes which may seem lower initially will in fact be higher than the fixed 35% fee we work with and quote up-front.
Why should I make a supermarket injury claim?
Your injury should not define you. Being awarded compensation can't change things, but it can certainly help you come to terms with the event and move forward. Your accident may leave you struggling with medical bills or financial issues. Compensation could provide you with the monetary support you need.
Accidents at work are incredibly common. According to the Health and Safety Executive, most workplace injuries in 2020-21 resulted from slips, trips and falls. Manual handling, lifting and carrying came in at second.
Accidents in public, meanwhile, frequently occur when areas around places like supermarkets haven't been properly maintained.
By making a claim, you could also be making a difference. Depending on where and how you were injured, your pursuit of supermarket accident compensation could lead to change. That could be through the implementation of new in-store safety measures or additional training on the use of manual equipment for staff members. This could help prevent others from sustaining such injuries in the future.
