What are the common types of holiday accidents abroad?
There are numerous incidents which could lead you to claim for an accident abroad. However, we've listed some of the most common types to give you an idea of what you could claim for:
- Swimming pool accidents: These can be primarily caused by a lack of supervision or safety procedures in place at the venue.
- Hotel room injuries: Perhaps you've got a piece of faulty furniture in your room that has caused an injury, such as falling off a broken chair or dropping something heavy on your foot because of a defective table.
- Food poisoning: Often caused by poor hygiene or negligent food-handling practices, food poisoning can have a horrid effect on your body throughout your holiday.
- Slips, trips and falls: There may have been spillages or leaks around the hotel that have caused you to have a nasty fall. If there were no warning signs in place to notify you of the hazard, you could make a holiday accident claim.
- Excursion injuries: You may have taken part in an excursion and been hurt due to poorly maintained equipment or a lack of proper staff training.
What are the common injuries from an overseas holiday accident?

- Back injuries

- Allergic reactions
- Cuts or bruising
- Eye injuries
If your injury was at the hands of somebody else's negligence, you should consider making a claim for accident abroad compensation.

Is there a time limit on making a holiday accident claim?
You will typically have three years from the date the accident occurred to make a claim. However, this can vary for overseas holiday accidents. It's advised that you get in touch with us as soon as possible. Try not to delay if you're serious about claiming for an accident on holiday compensation.
There are some circumstances in which this time limit may be extended. For instance, if you're claiming on behalf of a child, in the UK you will have until their 18th birthday to do so. Alternatively, your child can make their own claim once they've turned 18 but must do it before their 21st birthday.
How much holiday accident compensation could I receive?
There's no set figure as to how much you'll receive if you had an accident on holiday. We deal with every claim on an individual basis. The amount you could receive will depend on the severity of the injury and how damaging the effects are on your quality of life.
To get more of an idea of how much you could be awarded, take a look at our compensation figures table below. These have been calculated using the Judicial College Guidelines.

Can I make a holiday accident claim on a no win no fee basis?
We want to provide all our clients with the opportunity to make a claim, no matter their financial situation. It's why the majority of our cases operate on a no win no fee basis, allowing you to proceed with your claim without having to worry about a hefty bill before you've started.
You'll need to ensure you have the relevant insurance in place to make a no win no fee claim. However, your holiday accident solicitor will arrange this with you before you get started. This means the costs are covered if your case is unsuccessful.
If your case is successful, a percentage of your compensation will be deducted to pay your solicitor. We will handle your case on a No Win No Fee basis, with no up-front costs to pay. So, if your claim fails and we don't manage to recover compensation for you, you won't be charged. If your claim succeeds, we guarantee that we'll never deduct more than 35% of your compensation. Other firms, which may quote less than 35% initially, may charge VAT on top of their rate, and charge for legal insurance in addition to charges for their time and the work involved, even after stating that their fees will be capped at 25%. So, it is worth bearing in mind that quotes which may seem lower initially will in fact be higher than the fixed 35% fee we work with and quote up-front.
Why should I make a holiday accident claim?
Getting into an accident on holiday is the last thing you probably expected. You want to be left with happy memories and sustaining your injury may have tarnished that.
We understand that being awarded compensation can't change what happened, but it can certainly help you move forward. If you're struggling to pay medical bills or have been left financially unstable as a result, compensation can provide you with the support you need.
We want you to get the accident abroad compensation you need. The financial help could make your recovery that little bit easier. You'll also be holding those who have shown negligent behaviour accountable, encouraging improved health and safety practices for holidaymakers in the future.

Frequently asked questions...
In a compensation claim case, the 'paper trail' is important and your Doctor will log the injury and the likely cause on your medical records.
Every claim we handle is different and that makes it hard for us to say how long your compensation claim might take. However, the bulk of the claims we handle are relatively short in duration.
In simpler cases where fault is clear and undeniable, the claim may be settled quickly, and even disputed claims can be negotiated to a settlement in approximately 12 months.
However, if you've suffered a serious or life-changing injury then your compensation claim may take longer. This is because we need to understand its full impact and make sure your future rehab or treatment costs are adequately covered.
You can rest assured that we will stay in touch with you throughout the process so that you'll always know how things are progressing.
In cases involving very serious or catastrophic injury that have gone to Court, the Judge can rule that the compensation is paid in a continuous series of regular payments if it's in the best care interests of the Claimant.
